More about SCOS

Society Members include beginners growing on the window sill, intermediate growers with interior lighted gardens and experienced growers with automated greenhouses. The common thread is a desire to enhance the enjoyment of orchids. Monthly Meetings feature informative presentations on all aspects of orchid culture, with speakers frequently offering plants for sale. Each meeting also features a Show Table of breathtaking orchids. Members are encouraged to bring in their blooming plants for display.

Here is a bit of video history (from 1967) about SCOS

Each February the society sponsors an annual Orchid Show at Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The show attracts large crowds coming to enjoy the exceptional displays filled with beautiful orchids, magnificent Orchid art, as well as one of the nation’s best zoos and gardens. A large variety of orchids are available for sale from regional vendors. Other activities include a Picnic and Auction, visits to orchid nurseries and greenhouse tours. We also encourage our members to attend the Special Orchid Seminars held periodically in the region.

We encourage you to browse our website to learn more about growing orchids. If you want more information, we welcome you as our guest at our meetings. We meet the third Sunday of most months at 12:30pm. The meetings held at the Garden Club Council of Greater Columbia Building, 1605 Park Circle in Maxcy Gregg Park just off of Pickens Street at the intersection of Blossom Street in Columbia.
